Description: From time to time, it may be necessary or desirable to amend the text of the zoning code and the zoning map. The process to change the code can be initiated by (1) a member of the general public, (2) the Plan Commission, or (3) the Town Board. Procedures and requirements are found in § 360-24 of the zoning code.

Decision-makers: Plan Commission makes a recommendation and the Town Board makes the final decision

In order for an application to be heard on a given meeting date, the application (including forms, fees, plans, reports, etc.) must be submitted AND deemed complete by Town staff on or before the corresponding submittal date. Because of that, you may want to submit your application before the submittal date. That way, we may be able to let you know if anything is missing and you'll have some time to perhaps get it done before the deadline.

About Reviewers
The following are involved in the review of this type of application.

The Town Board is the governing body of the Town of Rome and is responsible for making decisions on local policies, budgets, and ordinances. The board also reviews certain types of development projects. The board consists of 5 members who are elected to two-year, overlapping terms.

The Plan Commission is a 7-member body established by the Town Board to review certain development projects and act on other matters. Depending on the type of the development proposal, the commission may be advisory to the Town Board or have the authority to make the final decision. Three members also serve on the Town Board; the remaining members are town residents.

Planning staff provides technical support to the Town Board, Plan Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, developers, neighbors, and other interested parties to facilitate the development review process.
